About Dan Beresford

I'm a traditional oil painter based in Wagga Wagga, NSW, specializing in seascapes and landscapes that beautifully capture the light, depth, and atmosphere of the Australian landscape. Growing up on the coast near Sydney and the South Coast of NSW, those early surroundings have left a lasting impression that continues to inspire my work today.

My journey as an artist began at the age of 10, sketching anything I could. I was fortunate to be inspired by my grandmother, an accomplished artist herself. Although I started young, it wasn’t until later in life that I truly picked up the brush with the intention of becoming a professional artist, aiming to create original artworks that resonate with art collectors.

A significant turning point in my career was joining Andrew Tischler’s Tisch Academy. Andrew is not only a world-renowned artist but also my mentor and teacher. His guidance transformed my approach to painting and gave me the confidence to pursue my dream.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of exhibiting my work in galleries across NSW—from Sydney to the Northern Rivers, the South Coast, Tumut, and now as part of Fern Street Gallery. Recently, I was honored with a Highly Commended award at the respected Tumut Art Show.

Through my art, I aim to offer viewers more than just a scene—I want to evoke a memory, a feeling, or a sense of place. If someone can connect emotionally to my work or recall a moment from their own life, then I’ve achieved my goal. My paintings, often drawn from personal experience, transform memories into timeless, representational works rooted in traditional realism.
